The new Phantom 38 backpack is what comes closest to perfection. It's extremely roomy but doesn't weigh you down (it weighs less than a pound), thanks to the durable, lightweight Spectra® ripstop fabric. The top opening has been removed to reduce weight, but the flip-top closure has retained a zippered pocket for storing your essentials and a lanyard for tying or securing a rope. Side compression straps are useful for carrying skis or a splitboard, while the reinforced waist belt makes the backpack much more comfortable to carry. The gear carrying system has been improved to cover sharp and pointed objects, and thanks to the internal compression lanyard system, the backpack remains comfortable and well-organized, with no attachment points. Strategically placed reflective details make you visible in your climbing partner's flashlight on pre-dawn starts.
