Opinel N.8 Inox knife

The must-have pocket knife N°08

Classic among classics, this knife has not ceased to delight for more than 120 years. The N°08 is the most popular of the collection. Very versatile, it is an indispensable tool for everyday use. It features a stainless steel blade. Its varnished beech handle ensures a secure and comfortable grip. The Virobloc safety ring allows the user to work and move without risk.

Martensitic stainless steel
The stainless steel used in OPINEL blades is an optimised grade for high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has an excellent cutting edge and high resistance to abrasion (wear), enabling it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramics, before having to be resharpened. Unlike carbon steel, stainless steel has the advantage of being maintenance-free in ordinary use. However, it can reach its limits when placed in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergents, etc.).

Yatagan blade
The Yatagan is Opinel's traditional blade. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish sword, with a raised tip. The blade is milled with an exclusive curved profile, which guarantees its robustness and allows for effective resharpening.

Handle
Beech is the most commonly used wood in the manufacture of Opinel handles. Coming from French cultivations, it is hard, resistant and easy to work. Homogenous in appearance, its light colour varies from yellow to pink. It is recognisable by the presence of numerous dark dashes. The handle is varnished to be effectively protected from dirt and moisture.

Safety ring
Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is present on all folding knives from No. 06 onwards. Carved from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (usage safety), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (transport safety).
