Opinel N 8 Carbon knife kit + sheath 2024
The measure par excellence in the collection!
Simply the benchmark for knives ‘made in France’. The N°08 Carbon was born in Joseph Opinel's workshop in 1890. Since then it has become a classic all over the world, thanks to its design and effectiveness. The 8.5 cm Carbon steel blade offers an infallible cut and resistance. The beechwood handle makes the knife easier to grip and therefore safer. The Virobloc safety system invented by Opinel allows the blade to be locked in the open or closed position. It is very versatile thanks to its size and indispensable for small DIY jobs, hunting, etc.
XC90 Carbon Steel
Opinel carbon steel is an unalloyed steel with a high carbon content, which allows excellent hardness to be obtained from heat treatment, guaranteeing a perfect cutting edge, high wear resistance and easy resharpening. However, since carbon steel has a low resistance to corrosion by moisture, it requires precautions for use: do not leave the knife in a damp environment, especially in a dishwasher, clean the blade with an oily cloth after use and grease it as often as the joint.
Handle
Beech is the most commonly used wood in the manufacture of Opinel handles. Coming from French cultivations, it is hard, resistant and easy to work. Homogenous in appearance, its light colour varies from yellow to pink. It is recognisable by the presence of numerous dark dashes. The handle is varnished to be effectively protected from dirt and moisture.
Safety ring
Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is present on all folding knives from No. 06 onwards. Carved from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (usage safety), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (transport safety).
Blade
Blade length: 8.5 cm.
